Resveratrol Buyers Guide - Consumer Tips
A resveratrol product that contains 99% purity resveratrol is preferred over products with a lesser purity percentage.
A resveratrol product made from Japanese Knotweed where the label indicates it contains a resveratrol of 50% purity will contain 50% trans-resveratrol and 50% of other ingredients such as "cis-resveratrol" and emodin. Trans-resveratrol is the form of resveratrol that is believed by many researchers to be beneficial, while the cis-resveratrol form of resveratrol is not considered beneficial. The problem with 50% purity resveratrol products, or any purity less than 99% made from Japanese Knotweed, is that they usually contain a substance called "emodin." For many people, emodin acts as a laxative and can cause stomach cramps and diarrhea. Many companies use the lower purity resveratrol products because those products are significantly less expensive, enabling the company to gain a much higher profit margin.
Most resveratrol products on the market today are derived from Japanese knotweed. Some products contain resveratrol derived from grapes, and some, such as Perfect ResGrape are derived from a combination of both Japanese knotweed and grapes.
Many companies will not disclose the percentage purity of resveratrol in their products. Avoid those products.
Consumers must look beyond the amount of milligrams per capsule to understand what they are buying.
Here are some helpful hints…
Buy 99% trans-resveratrol products.
Avoid lesser purity products such as 50% trans-resveratrol because of the emodin content discussed above.
Buy products that disclose the purity of resveratrol in their products.
Most companies do not disclose the purity percentage of resveratrol in their products. Avoid those products.
Buy only products that display an "ingredients" label.
Avoid products that offer a "proprietary blend" or "proprietary formula" because they are failing to disclose the products actual ingredients.
Beware of advertisements that show price comparisons.
Many companies will compare the price of low purity products to high purity products. It's misleading.
Avoid "Free Offers". They are auto-shipment scams.
