Hairy Bikers’ Dave Myers gives health update amid cancer diagnosis

Hairy Bikers’ Dave Myers has shared a welcome health update amid his cancer battle. The celebrity chef, who first revealed the news of his cancer diagnosis last Maysays he has returned to work thanks to a diet of fermented food.

speaking to The MirrorsMyers credited foods such as sauerkraut and kimchi in aiding his recovery following a “brutal” experience with chemotherapy.

“It’s unbelievable to be back. Every breath I take now is just refreshing and fabulous. It really varies what food I’ve been having,” Myers explained. “At some stage I need to put weight on but I need things to boost my immune system.

“So I’ve been eating a lot of sauerkraut. It really works for me – sauerkraut, kimchi and meatballs. I live by it. It’s a probiotic and good for the immune system and keeps you regular. I love it. It’s the healthy eating that does it.”

After receiving the Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Award for Personalities of the Year along with his Hairy Bikers co-star Si King, Myers said: “We got back to filming this week, a new TV series, and it is a huge step back to normality and winning an award.I got diagnosed last March so it’s been over a year.

“It’s a work in progress and it’s all going the right way. I’m getting there and I’m back on the bike.”

It’s a huge step for the former Strictly Come Dancing star, who previously opened up about the effects of his chemotherapy treatment on his ability to ride his motorbike.

“Your balance goes, so for someone with a motorbike that’s a disaster, and my walking has affected quite a lot, really,” he said before adding that he had to learn to walk again.
